Great Probiotics For Lyme, IBS & Other Issues

VSL#3 Probiotic

VSL#3 is my favorite probiotic that I use that helped me through a tough time. I use the 60 capsules but there are other options. They also come in packets that are flavored or unflavored. You can purchase these from Amazon, or find them in the Costco Pharmacy but I get mine directly from the maker at VSL3.com. They come shipped in a foam cooler packed with ice packets.

This probiotic is the highest live bacteria count you can find. The capsules that I buy have 225 billion live bacteria where the packets contain 450 billion live probiotic bacteria. I pay about $55.00 shipped. Which is not bad and I really think it saved my gut.

I highly recommend these even though the cost is a little higher than most brands. The stuff you buy in the store is for those with minor bowel issues. This is the good stuff. My LLMD recommended it and it has been a life saver. I suffered from severe IBS for the past 15 years. I could name every bathroom in a 500 mile radius. IBS ruined my life since I was unable to go anywhere in public. With Lyme and co’s and taking a lot of antibiotics my stomach was bad for a month. I doubled up on my probiotics and I am happy to say I have been almost regular for 2 months. My pain pills do help some since they dehydrate me so I give 10% credit to Norco. lol

Side Note –

I did also recently add food grade Diatomaceous earth to take with my probiotics. The earth is a cleanser, binder, scrubber and may help get rid of parasites and eggs in the intestines. Although it will not work as well as say Alinia and Ivermectin.

Tale 2 tsp per day of the earth mixed with water or juice. I take a small glass of water and add fresh lemon juice with my earth.

Here’s a great source to buy food grade Diatomaceous earth –

Florastor

Florstor was recommended to me at the Costco Pharmacy one day by the pharmacist. She told me she has other Lyme patients and they all use Florastor recommended by their doctors. I use it daily on top of my daily dose of VSL#3.

Florastor comes in capsule for or powder for children. I currently take one a day. I know you are not supposed to take this form of probiotic (Saccharomyces boulardii lyo) with certain meds so check with your pharmacist or LLMD first. Remember everyone’s body is different so what works for me may not work for you but these are two probiotics it took some time to find and help with my IBS and I am doing a lot better.

  • Florastor cells are bigger than bacterial  probiotic cells, so yeast can provide increased gut coverage.

  • Florastor is not compromised by antibiotic use,†2  while bacterial probiotics are negatively affected by antibiotics.

*Florastor. It’s the #1 probiotic worldwide*1.

Good info. Thanks. One exception: Florastor is an expensive form of Saccharomyces boulardii. SB can be purchased directly. Health food stores and Whole Foods. Cheap.

Thanks for the tip. I have tried quite a few OTC probiotic but they did nothing for me.

Yes, my Lyme literate doctor advised me to use Florstar too.
I found the exact same ingredients with JARROW brand, more capsules for your $$$.
Take it ANYTIME, no refrigeration …

I was prescribed VSL -3 DS.
      I Love VSL- 3
Do you know if you can get the non double strength over the counter ?
Like the photo here, in a bottle – not the box of packets.
My “DS” says “for prescription only”
      They’re the powder packets.
This article says you can buy VSL 3 at Costco, trying to find out if you can purchase OTC (over the counter)

My mom used to buy them at Costco and it was OTC. They just keep them behind the counter refrigerated. You have to ask the pharmacist for them. I buy the capsule form but they may have the packets.

Hi. I use diatomaceous earth and a probiotic together also, but was wondering if you had read or heard anything about it being a poor combination or a wasteful one. I am wondering if the DE has an adverse effect on the good bacteria in the probiotic. Any ideas? Thanks

I haven’t heard any negative feedback on it. I have since stopped using it for now. I was using it to help kill intestinal parasites but I think the Ivermectin did a good job of getting rid of those. I still drink a spoonful hear and there though with lemon.
